Eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment used by counsellors to help people with PTSD, anxiety, depression, behavior issues, self-esteem and a whole variety of client concerns. EMDR works on anyone who has disturbing memories that keep reoccurring and cause an emotional reaction each time you recall them. You might find you have unproductive automatic reactions to certain people or events EMDR is a beneficial treatment to help you overcome those triggers.
The first step in EMDR is bilateral stimulation. This process desensitizes the clients highly emotionally charged memories, so, the emotion can be removed, but the client still keeps their memories. The next step is to reprocess those memories. Even though those memories no longer have an emotionally effect on the client, the reprocessing component shifts the client’s perspective of those memories, so, they can view themselves in a more positive way. This process allows the client to find peace within themselves and feel comfortable and accepting of the world around them. The client learns to live without fear, because the EMDR process allows their brain to stop reacting to their memories, as if they were still living in danger. EMDR is a gentle and effective method for people of all ages to find healing.
A trained counsellor can use different methods to perform EMDR, such as using a light bar, using pulsars with head phones, or having the client tap on their shoulders. All these methods produce the bilateral stimulation needed to separate the emotion from the memory. The counsellor can use the EMDR light bar online giving people the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of EMDR no matter where they are located.
